Google May Tweak Search Rankings With +1 Data

Google's +1 release is becoming more useful thanks to its ties to Google+, and immediately the fellowship is considering whether +1 information should affect page rankings in Google searches.

Wired's Ryan Singel has confirmed that Google is studying whether to use +1 information to tweak search rankings. According to a Google spokesperson, "The desig of any superior signal is to better overall search quality. For +1's and another mixer ranking signals, as with any new superior signal, we'll be starting cautiously and learning how those signals are corresponding superior."

In principle, Google could use data from its social meshing to help comb out spam or bring to the opencast articles with a high number of +1 endorsements. Just Google must pace thinly in this area, A Singel points out. The Authorities Trade Commission is already probing Google on anti-trust settlings, followers complaints that the fellowship uses its search and publicizing ascendence to further its own products over the competition.
