If I Bought A Camera Off Someone Can I Register With Nikon As Mine?

Did you register with Nikon when you bought your camera?

Hi. I bought a D90 past mail service social club a calendar month ago and love it. Information technology occurred to me lately that I wasn't prompted anywhere by Nikon to annals with Nikon'southward web site or to send in a registration bill of fare. After poking around on the web I registered just now at help.nikon.ca (I live in Canada) and this allow me scan an FAQ and download a PDF of the user manual.

My question: is Nikon generally set up such that they don't expect us to register with them? Unremarkably it is quite the opposite with vendors - registration cards fall out of the box and installed software insists on registration.

Cheers,
Peter

I just got my d90 today and information technology had a black and gold card in the box for registration. Information technology stood out pretty well confronting the rest of the contents. Information technology's possible it was just missing from yours.

Yeah,

My camera body and each lens had a registration card in the box.

I don't think I sent any of them in however.

I annals everything of value, cameras, lenses, flashes, TVs, monitors, etc., it comes in very handy when something breaks and y'all no longer take the receipt. I had one monitor dice 18 months into a 2 twelvemonth warranty but because I registered it in that location was no trouble with repair. I also had an LCD TV just die simply once more, I registered it, I don't conceptualize whatsoever problems getting it fixed.

Yes, and all my Nikkor lenses, too -- registered online. I usually await a day or two, and in one case I'k convinced the particular'due south a keeper, I register. I think I read somewhere they want you to register inside 10 business days of purchase, but information technology's difficult to imagine how they tin can enforce that.

Yes, I Register All Nikon Lenses & Cameras & Nikon Expects For Us To Do This, :-)

Peter A. Stokes (I just noticed you live in Canada -- And, What I Have Below Is For NikonUSA Warranty Equipment -- May or Non Apply To You lot. For Nikon Canada Warranty stuff, they should have something similar for you to Register with them):

1. I register all my Nikon Bodies/lenses, online, the same 24-hour interval I receive them. Information technology's simply the extended part of the warranty for lenses, and/or any applicable rebate certificates that must be sent to Nikon via snail mail. I print out a copy of the online registration, and attach it to my re-create of the warranty carte du jour, the sales receipt & file this is a binder where my photography equipment files are located. All of my equipment and accessories are besides maintained in an electronic inventory database (FileMaker Pro), including the inventory department of Quicken for Mac, that keeps track of what I accept spent on photography stuff, same equally with other things I purchase. With just a quick click, I tin know exactly which filter is on which lens, for example, how much I paid for information technology, date of purchase, vendor, and all sorts of data. I can click on any of my lenses and will be hyperlinked to the manufacturer'southward web site, for it's specific information, in addition to whatsoever data I have added to my data base for the item(due south)...

ii. For whatsoever Nikon Stuff y'all haven't registered, I propose you register it this very moment at, the link beneath. First create a complimentary account with Nikon (if y'all oasis't already); as this manner, you will exist able to log in from time to fourth dimension, confirm what is registered with them. This is as well helpful to take when you want to download Nikon firmware updates/manuals and such, from the NikonUSA Spider web Site:

Thanks for this informative thread.

I was wondering, what about when you lot buy slightly used equipment from eBay that's recently new and has never been registered and includes the original, unfilled warranty cards? Can y'all only make full out the warranty card and send it in?

Thanks.

Yes you lot tin 'fill-in' and send the warranty cards off to Nikon but as I sympathise it, in the UK anyway, no 'Nikon' warranty is transferable - simply the original purchaser can make a merits....unless, I guess, you lot 'purchase' the receipt from the original purchaser also - as long as the receipt is from a genuine [authorised ?] Nikon retailer then just perhaps - perhaps - you might get abroad with it.......?

Buying from ebaY does NOT guarantee you are ownership 18-carat Nikon production and auction sites are where 'grey' market equipment is widely available. Nikon does non support 'Greyness' marketplace merchandise under their warranty system and in the United states I believe the situation is controllled by Nikon USA very strongly.

Re: Yeah, I Register All Nikon Lenses & Cameras & Nikon Expects For U.s. To Practice T

Hi. Simply want to give thanks everyone for the informative replies, with special cheers to BRJR for his/her extensive information. I'm a little concerned there was no registration bill of fare in the box. It kind of makes me wonder if the camera was a return. I did inspect it very closely when I opened it and there wasn't one tiny slice of evidence it had ever been used. Which makes nosotros wonder: where is the shutter count function? I couldn't observe it in the menus, in the EXIF, nor in the forums. Cheers, Peter

It is possible the bill of fare was not put in at the factory, these things are all packed by hand and it isn't that unusual for something to be forgotten.

The shutter count is in the EXIF but not all Exif viewers testify it, Adobe Span doesn't but the Kuso Exif viewer does. http://www.kuso.cc/exifviewer/

Re: Yes, I Register All Nikon Lenses & Cameras & Nikon Expects For Us To Do T

I did annals both my lens and my camera with Nikon, only my shop warned me to not do information technology until I was sure they were keepers.

The store has a return policy where it will exchange out any broken or malfunctioning equipment as well as exchange for 2 weeks. Not the best return policy out there but I was sure I wanted a camera, then the store credit didn't bother me if I had a problem.

Point is, I did just that, bought the camera and played with information technology for a flake earlier registering. This helped me greatly. Turns out my 18-200 lens was broken and wouldn't AF later on 2 days. I was leaving for a trip inside 4 days of buy, which apparently isn't the all-time in planning, merely the shop was able to do an exchange on the lens and requite me a factory new lens in its place. If I registered the product, they wouldn't have been able to practise that.

I estimate my point is, make certain you don't desire to return/substitution the production before registering, it can help.

No card in my box either....

I am in Ottawa and even had to exchange my D90 once. I do not remember seeing a registration carte du jour in either box nonetheless, in that location is a xanthous repair carte du jour that I believe only needs to be filled when sending the unit in for repair, I may be mistaken.

Volition double bank check my box when I get home.

Also, Henry's or some other dealer may be able to confirm.

How-do-you-do from Kingston, only "downwards the road". I believe I also received the same repair card (one for the torso, 1 for the lens). As I recall (I'm at work at the moment), it has carbon copy sheets in information technology. Peradventure that is the way Nikon handles this in Canada.

Peter

I got a carte du jour with lens, none with body, BTW, registration not required

I sent the lens carte du jour in for extended lens warranty. No big deal if you don't accept a registration card tho, equally long as you take a reciept your skilful to go. As others have mentioned above, its good to register on line anyway.

Re: "has never been registered and includes the original, unfilled warranty cards? "

fbx:

As you accept the engagement of sale to you (on the invoice/sale receipt), and obviously the serial number is on the lens ----- why non try and register them online, at the link I previously provided. So many people get "hung upwards" well-nigh registration cards; simply, other than the extended warranty portion or when claiming an appropriate rebate ------ with online registration, the cards are Not necessary; and, even the spider web site volition say non to submit them, after the online registration with NikonUSA is complete.

Re: "there was no registration card in the box"

Peter A. Stokes :

1. For online registration, a bill of fare is not needed anyway,

2. Date and place of sale is on your sales sideslip; and, serial number every bit shown on your lens (and NikonUSA or CA estimator volition know whether it's "greyness" for their respective markets or not). If the registration goes through, yous're done ------- this should occur equally fast every bit you can input all of your information into the Nikon Online Registration Form, at the site of the "Official Nikon Buyer" of your Nikkor lens.

3. Canadians, that purchase NikonUSA production, from the U.s., will manifestly register them online with NikonUSA, using the NikonUSA form, at that link I previously provided; or in your example, the Nikon Canada online form , you say you used for Nikon Canada Warranty product.

four. Now, on the other manus, a missing registration carte du jour, could likely indicate that your Nikon product is "grayness market" ---- but, still endeavour and annals it online ---- if, the registration completes, yous'll okay ----- only, print out a re-create for your records.

Re: Did you annals with Nikon when y'all bought your camera?

When I got my D40 I got a registration card in the box I was suppose to render to activate my warranty. Of course I immediately filled it out then it got put dorsum in the box and never mailed...I found it when I was looking for warranty information after my camera broke.( flash stopped working)

I contacted Nikon (very nice people by the style) and they never even asked me virtually it all they said was to include a re-create of my sales receipt along with the photographic camera. I was only notified today by Nikon that my repair is covered nether warranty no questions asked.

Of grade I couldn't find the receipt just I bought information technology through Amazon so I was able to print i off line.

I remember there is a standard 1 twelvemonth on the photographic camera I was inside this time frame then it wasn't an issue. I'm sure if I had returned the card than I would take gotten an option to purchase an extended warrantee through them.

Re: Did yous annals with Nikon when y'all bought your camera?

Australian heir-apparent here - no registration cards in D90 box or either of my lenses. Only a Carbonised Service Warranty card for each - dealer kept pink copy I have yellow and white copies.

Accept looked at the Nikon Commonwealth of australia site and nowhere I can notice to register my gear with them either. I guess if I ever hyave a problem I'll just contact Nikon Australia and go from there.

Annotation to self!! Keep ALL RECEIPTS AND RECORDS SAFE!!
